VERSeFest Preview

In case you haven’t already heard, VERSeFest, “Ottawa’s new annual poetry festival,” will open on Tuesday March 8 at Arts Court with two events:

At 7 PM, a page/spoken word hand-holder featuring spoken word poets Ian Keteku and Brad Morden as well as “page poets” David McGimpsey and recent Archibald Lampman Award winner Craig Poile

At 9 PM, In/Words, “Ottawa’s fastest growing reading series,” will co-host (along with The Moose & Pussy) two of our favourite Ottawa poets: Michael Dennis and Ben Ladouceur. As a preview, we offer you this unforgettable clip of Michael reading his famous “Hockey Night In Canada” poem at the 1999 Ottawa Writers Festival.

Can we agree that “page poets” can be exciting too? At least the ones that hit the page “like a freight train hitting a fruit wagon.”

Check out the VERSeFest schedule on their website for other talks and readings by Sandra Ridley, Monty Reid, Karen Solie and Richard Greene (amongst many others).

Check back with us soon for a preview of the other In/Words VERSeFest reader, Ben Ladouceur!
