Seeing as the weather has turned on us after those few beautiful days, we presume you are all stuck inside wondering what to do with yourselves.
Have no fear, we have a solution.

In/Words Spring issue submissions are OPEN!

Don’t forget to check out the submission guidelines, right here - we will be accepting submissions right up until 31st May, and we are looking for a cracking collection, so get going!

The issue will be 12.3 and will be the last one with the current editorial line-up, so if you have a burning desire to have your work read by Chris, Claire, or Jenna, then this is your chance.
Send along prose pieces, poetry phenomena and other works of literary genius to inwordsmagazine@gmail.com

Finally, if you are a part of the Writers Circle weekly meetings, or if you are a newbie looking to come along, we are trying out something different and next week we will be meeting at the same time of 7PM on Monday, but at the Daily Grind, Somerset Street West.

Can’t wait to read your submissions and look forward to seeing you at the circle!

Dear faithful readers or new curious stumblers,

Well, our end-of-the-school-year lull and exam-time silence has reached its end because it is now officially summer! Don’t you go thinking that summer means a break for In/Words though, ’cause if you thought that then you would have thought wrong.

This quick post is to remind all Ottawa-folk and In/Words Reading Series frequenters that the monthly Reading Series in the basement of Clocktower Brew Pub at 575 Bank Street will continue for the summer months. Come out and enjoy some great featured readers that we have lined up and bring a poem or two for the open-mic set as well!

Furthermore, we’d also like to remind everyone that In/Words Magazine is always accepting submissions, and that we are actually looking for some new pieces to publish in the next round of our revamped Broadside Series. So, if you have a poem or a micro-fiction piece then send it our way! We’re looking to have some more things available for the Spring edition of the Ottawa Small Press Book Fair on the 15th of June, so take a chance and submit!

Finally, if your interested in writing this summer (I mean, who isn’t?), then there may still be a chance for you to sign up for Rick Taylor’s Summer Fiction Workshop (ENGL 2903A) at Carleton University, which runs from the 7th of May until the 13th of August. For more information on that, visit Carleton’s website and/or Carleton Central for availability.

That’s all the shop talk for today. Now go out and enjoy this summery weather!

… I apologise for that title, but hopefully it got you this far into the post.

This week is VerseFest, everybody! We really hope you’ve been taking advantage of some incredible visiting poets this week and attending some of the fantastically varied poetry readings . Their full schedule is available on their website and we look forward to seeing you there.

Our second piece of exciting news ties in neatly with VerseFest. At the back of the hall there, there are several tables covered in poetry collections and magazines from all sorts of authors and presses, including our brand spanking new issue!
Fresh of the press yesterday, it is chock-a-block full of Ottawa’s finest: some interesting poetry and inspiring prose for every occasion, from being stood up, to attempted seduction, to inexplicable people, and conspiracy theories.

So come on by and pick up a copy, as well as copies of our latest publications: Claire P Hunter’s chapbook, and A. M Kozak and Justin Labelle’s collection photographs and poems, plus our Fall 2012 issue and broadsides.
While you’re there, don’t forget to say hi to any of the editors hanging around, feel free to barrage us with questions, give us feedback, or whisper queries as to who is who of the Ottawa writing community.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Thank you so much to everyone who managed to make it out this evening!
We felt went well with great readers, a fantastic atmosphere, and a beautiful audience.

If you didn’t manage to snag a copy of any of the chapbooks or broadsides on sale, stop by the In/Words evening of VerseFest, coming up this Wednesday! At 9PM at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 120 Lisgar Street, Matt Jones and Jordan Chevalier will be reading their stuff.

Event tickets begin at only $10, and for Carleton University students, there is a limited amount of free passes available so make the most of this generous offer and get down to the events early on.
You can find more information at their Facebook page, here, and on their website, here.

If you enjoyed this evening, you’ll definitely love the poetry featured at VerseFest!
Thanks again for coming out, we hope everyone enjoyed their evening

By the way, if the chap taking photos could get in contact with us (inwordsmagazine@gmail.com), we’d love to see some of the shots, thanks.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY FOR SUBMISSIONS

Midnight tonight will be the last chance for consideration in this coming issue.
Thank you so much to all who took the time to send us in pieces of their work to be considered for the upcoming issue, we will be getting back to you all as soon as possible. At the moment there is no finalised date of publication, but we will let you know when we know, so stay tuned with your eyes on this space.

And now we’ve let you down and crushed your literary hopes and dreams until our next issue, I’ll be the bearer of good news:
our first Reading Series of 2013 was this week!
On 30th January, alongside beautiful readings by our featured readers: Justin Million and Aaron Clark, there was a hell of an open-mic set, Dave Currie sporting a Playboy t-shirt, and a fantastic turn-out who braved the weather to view this spectacle in real-time. Many thanks to all you who came out; for you and for those at home who missed this fantastic evening, here is a photo that will bring a smile to these miserable February nights:

L-R: Dave Currie, Justin Million, Aaron Clark; including beer, a Playboy shirt, and the infamous Clocktower Pub basement.

‘Till next time!

This post is to inform our faithful readers and curious occasional-lookers that In/Words Magazine is currently accepting submissions for Issue 12.2 (a.k.a. the Winter Issue)! That’s right, you excited little bunny-writers. It’s time to drop those carrots and pick up those pens so that you can submit your best work to In/Words!
We accept submissions of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and visual art from up-and-coming and established artists, but also remember that we only accept email submissions. Submissions should be sent to inwordsmagazine [at] gmail [dot] com. The subject line should contain the word “submission” as well as the appropriate category and the submitter’s surname (e.g. “Poetry Submission – Kipling”). If you have any further inquiries, please check out the Submission Guidelines section of our website, or just shoot us off an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

So, now that the winter holidays are almost over (except for New Years, but who really cares about that?) everyone should have loads of free time to spend writing and submitting. To give everyone a chance to submit, we shall say that our deadline is the 4th February for this call for submissions; this means you have time to test out your poetry during the open mic at our monthly reading series at the Clocktower Brew Pub (Glebe location — 575 Bank St) before you submit. We hope to see you there and we look forward to reading your submissions!

Cheers!
